Five Minute Friday: Present

It's Friday! So here we are, hundreds of us, bravely writing for five minutes flat on the same prompt given by the lovely Lisa-Jo Baker. "No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real."

This is Five Minute Friday, where writing gets real.

This weeks prompt is PRESENT

GO!

So much of my day I spend busy around the house. Busy with laundry and dishes and diapers and iPhones and messes and meals. And I snap when I hear the word "Mommy" interrupt my routines and I realize that I'm so busy trying to get life done that I'm really busy letting life pass me by.

Life is what's happening while I'm busy.

She longs for me to answer her "Mommy" cries with "Yes, baby?"

She longs for me to stop everything and give her all of me. To be present in these days that we have together.

I long for the same.

Jesus, help me to be less consumed with the things of this world. Less of the to-do lists and less "in a minutes". More of loving like you. More of what is right in front of me.

More of the present.

STOP!

Five Minute Friday

  1. You stir my heart. First your pic is gorgeous precious! Then your words. A mom of older ones now, I wished and consumed away so many precious moments when they were littler. I wish I knew them -- just be present!!! Wise words, friend. Beautiful!

  4. Love this! This call to remember that all of our busy simply pales in comparison to the calls from our own - purely wanting time! Yes - stay present... in each day! That is the challenge and that is the goal! (Oh - and I LOVE that little "I'm attending allume" button too!)

  7. Perfect. Busy is not as good as the world wants us to think it is. Time to slow down and focus on what's right in front of you; what's present.

  8. Just want to start with - love you new picture! And love the one you picked for tonight. This --> She longs for me to stop everything and give her all of me. > Even my nine year old feels this. And I still feel that struggle and pull of life vs present. This was such a good reminder to stop and be in that very moment.

  9. Beautiful words. My kids are older now, and I wish I had stopped and taken the time to maximize the moments I had with them while they were little. Life truly will happen when we are busy doing other things. I don't want to miss it! Blessings!

  11. This phrase:
"I'm so busy trying to get life done"
sums it all up in a few words. I'm glad I stumbled across your little corner of the world today. Thanks for writing.

  14. "Life is what's happening while I'm busy!" This is so true. I regret not stopping from cooking and cleaning to be more present while they were younger.

  20. Busy checking Twitter, Facebook, Words with Friends, Song Pop, Pinterest, email, and now...off to play with our sons. What in the world are we doing half of the time? I guess we all need some time to zone out, but really...we do need to be present. I was great this morning...time to turn on the "in the now" with the kids this afternoon and evening. Powering down...thanks Kelly!
